The McLean family lived in Extension and included Hugh, Mary, Duncan, William, Murdoch, and Kenneth. They were related to artist E.J. Hughes.

Material was donated to the Nanaimo District Museum in an undocumented transaction and transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 1993.

Fonds consists of the McLean family's financial records including assessments for properties in the Cranberry Land District, notices of assessment for the Cranberry and Wellington Land Districts, receipts for tax payments, receipts for various Nanaimo properties, and general receipts. Assessment rolls for the years 1894-1903 refer to the following properties in the Cranberry District: Range 1, Section 11; Range 3, Sections 5-7; Range 4, Sections 4-7; and Lots 4, 6 and 7 in the Cranberry District. Notices of Assessment for the years 1905-1921 refer to the following properties in the Cranberry and Wellington Districts: Range 1, Sections 8 and 9; Range 2, Sections 8 and 9; Range 3, Sections 5-9 and eastern part of Lot 6; Range 4, Sections 4-7; Range 5, Section 5; Lots 2 and 4 of Blocks 7 and 9, Section 1; and various other lots.

Title based on the contents of the fonds.
Material was reconstituted as a fonds in 2004.
