Born in Vermillion, Alberta, Don Stone earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Alberta and received his Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchewan. A lecturer in geography for several years at the University of Winnepeg and the University of Victoria, he later became a regional planning and resource management consultant in Vancouver. His clients included local, provincial, and federal governments, as well as First Nations communities in the Yukon. Stone joined Malaspina University-College (now Vancouver Island University) in 1990, served as Chair of the Geography Department for several years, and was appointed as the college's representative in the Imagine Nanaimo and Plan Nanaimo processes. He later served a term on the Plan Nanaimo Advisory Committee. Stone was the founding president of Friends of Plan Nanaimo Society. He retired from Malaspina University-College in 2008, and moved to Vancouver.
Collection consists of materials collected by Don Stone as a member of the Plan Nanaimo OCP Steering Committee. Includes minutes, correspondence, a copy of the consolidated Official Community Plan, and miscellaneous other materials.
