In the late 1930's, the Extension Department of the University of British Columbia sent out instructors to set up training courses in rural community development. Courses included: farm management, mechanics, carpentry, first aid, cooking, weaving, spinning, and other activities. From this training, the Cedar Rural Youth Training Organization was started and this later became the Cedar Activity Club in the early 1940s. The Club organized social events, discussion groups and gave charitable donations to hospitals, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, 4-H clubs, and others.

Material donated by Hazel Galloway.
