The Western Fuel Company Medical Relief Committee administered the Miners' Medical Relief and Accident Fund (one of several fund names) that was organized by mine employees in 1889 to provide medical and accident benefits. During the period covered by this fonds, the Western Fuel Company (later the Western Fuel Corporation) was the employer. In addition to the regular fees paid by employees, the Company made significant annual donations to the fund. The dissolution date of the Committee is unknown.

The minute book was extracted from the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital fonds (1996 034 A). The volume has notes and annotations by William Barraclough who may have used it for historical research.

Fonds consists of the Medical Relief Committee's minute book. Volume also includes annual reports, doctor reports and financial statements.
