The Wellington Volunteer Fire Department was active in the Wellington area from 1940 until its replacement with a full-time professional firefighting force by the City of Nanaimo. In addition to putting out fires, the Wellington Volunteer Fire Department's activities included fire prevention, public outreach, and hosting community events at the fire hall. Volunteer firefighters often competed in regional volunteer firefighter games, like the Allan Cup, and brought home a number of awards. After Wellington was amalgamated into the City of Nanaimo, the Wellington Volunteer Fire Department was, until its dissolution, answerable to the City.
