Finding Aids

A finding aid contains detailed information about a specific collection of papers or records within an archive. It is used by researchers to determine whether information within a collection is relevant to their research.

Beatrice Cooke was born in Nanaimo on October 3, 1901 to William and Charlotte Rumming. Her father owned Rumming Bottling Works on Wallace Street. Beatrice attended Central School where her aunt, Lucy Aylmer Mebius, had taught since 1887. After high school, Beatrice attended Victoria Normal School for teacher training and taught for two years. Cooke married Edward Howard McColl in 1921, living in Lake Cowichan, Duncan and Victoria until Howard died in 1960. Beatrice attended the University of British Columbia in the late 1950s and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1959 and a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1960. Beatrice then worked for the City of Vancouver. Beatrice married Albert Colby Cooke in 1963 and retired to Courtenay.

Fonds consists of book "Hopping on the Coloured Squares of Bright Light" and other educational material produced by Cooke. Also includes a remembrance booklet for her aunt Lucy A. Mebius with poems by Audrey Alexandra Brown.

Title is based on the contents of the collection.
