Finding Aids

A finding aid contains detailed information about a specific collection of papers or records within an archive. It is used by researchers to determine whether information within a collection is relevant to their research.

Guiseppina Tognini (spelt Fognini on some documents) was born in the Province of di Sondrio in Italy in 1888. She married miner Steven Arman of Tovo, Italy in Nanaimo in 1912.

Materials were collected for an exhibit at the Nanaimo District Museum and by local author Lynne Bowen for a book on Italian immigrants to British Columbia.

Collection consists of birth, marriage, naturalization and other certificates and papers for Steven Arman and Guiseppina Tognini. Some of the documents are in Italian.
