B.W. Pearse fonds [textual record]. -- 1859.

Benjamin William Pearse, 1832 -1902, was Assistant Colonial surveyor for the Hudson's Bay Company, and reported to J.D. Pemberton, Surveyor General of Vancouver Island. He was sent from Victoria to survey the land around the Nanaimo River in 1859. Pearse later became Deputy Land Commissioner to the Vancouver Island Commissioner of Lands and Works.

According to donor Al McAllister, the diary was part of the estate of Victor B. Harrison.

Fonds consists of a field book entitled 'Copy of Official Notes: Country around Nanaimo.' It records the surveying expedition of April-June, 1859 in the Cedar, Cranberry and Mountain Districts, and includes survey measurements, map sketches and descriptions of the area, and a journal.
