        The William Woodman family arrived in Nanaimo in 1887 and included wife Annie and daughters Ada, May, Annie, Sarah and Lizzie. May began teaching at age 16 and later received her teacher's certificate at the Normal School in Vancouver. In total, Woodman taught at Nanaimo schools for forty-three years.
        Materials were donated to the Nanaimo District Museum in undocumented transactions and transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 1993.
        Collection consists of May Woodman's teaching certificates and William Woodman's certificate of competency as a second-class engineer.
