        The Committee was established by Municipal Bylaw 1140, August 27,1962, pursuant to the B.C. Civil Defence Act of 1951 as a response to international crises relating to the Cold War. The purpose of the Committee was to coordinate all civil defence measures in the Nanaimo area, including evacuation.
        Record was likely donated to the Nanaimo District Museum by J. Parker, the vice-chairman of the Committee and a Museum Director. It was transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 1993.
        Fonds consists of a copy of a report which details an emergency operational plan for the Nanaimo area.
