        The Gold Commissioner was an agent of the Provincial Department of Mines. He purchased gold from local prospectors and forwarded it to provincial assayers.
        Records were found in the drawer of weigh scales that had been donated to the Nanaimo Museum. They were transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 1993.
        Fonds consists of correspondence and receipts related to the office of the Gold Commissioner. C.L. Monroe was the Gold Commissioner for the period covered by the records.
