        The Committee was a local branch of the Provincial Civilian Protection Committee, established to "take care of the civilian population with immediate action in the event of a major calamity." Membership consisted of City and military officials, Medical Health Officer and School Superintendent. H. Hackwood was treasurer.
        The financial records were deposited in the City Archives Vault at an unknown date and transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 1992. The City retains legal custody of these records. The minutes were donated to the Nanaimo District Museum on an unknown date and were transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 1993. The instruction sheet was donated by Lawrence Rieper in 2018.
        Fonds consists of minutes of meetings, 1939-42; account records, an emergency instructional sheet and photocopies of cashbook, 1941-1945.
