The Marine Gardens Association was organized in 1968 to promote and develop a cultural and recreational complex behind the Civic Arena. The Gyro Club of Nanaimo did a feasibility study of the concept, commissioned the architectural firm of Barley and Weismiller to prepare plans and sketches, and recommended the formation of a non-profit organization to carry on the work it started. The Marine Gardens Association submitted the final report to the public, the City, and the Regional District.
Material was donated to the Nanaimo District Museum in an undocumented transaction and transferred to the Nanaimo Archives in 1993.
Fonds consists of a proposal to construct a cultural/recreational complex on the site of the now demolished Civic Arena and Foundry. The report includes a site photograph and plans.
