        Raymond Jocelyn Knight was born on October 26, 1923 in Ladysmith. The Knight family operated a stationary and hardware store there for many years. Ray was an avid outdoorsman and was also active in the community and worked , first with the Boy Scouts and later with the Junior Forest Wardens. Ray was an honorary member of the Chemainus & District Museum and Ladysmith Historical Society, and a charter member of the Diggers Antique & Collectibles Club. Ray’s hobby and passion was collecting memorabilia and history of the local area and was often referred to as the “Town’s Historian”. Ray died in 2003.
        The Town of Ladysmith purchased Ray Knight's collection from his widow in 2007. Material that was not directly related to Ladysmith was transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 2013.
        Collection consists of original and reprinted photographs of Nanaimo people, events and scenes.
