        In 1913, the New sisters formed Nanaimo's first Girl Guide Company. When the News moved away, the company dissolved. In 1922, Mrs. Cannon started a Guide Company in Harewood, the 1st Five Acres Company, which stopped in 1927. In 1929, a local association formed to help form, under the leadership of Emmeline Dickinson, the 1st Nanaimo Company. Two years later, the 1st Nanaimo Brownie Pack was formed. Over the next almost 30 years, various companies and packs were formed and dissolved. By 1957, the Georgia Strait Division was created to accommodate the the steady growth of Nanaimo area companies and packs. The first divisional meeting of the newly formed Georgia Strait Division of the B.C. Girl Guides was held on Thursday, April 4, 1957, with May Piper, Divisional Commissioner; Barbara Nicholson, Secretary Treasurer; Mrs. Wilkes, Provincial Commissioner; Mrs. Quinnell [Quennell] and Mrs. MacQuillen, Executive Council; Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Smart, Canadian Council, in attendance.
        Fonds consists of records created by the Georgia Strait division of the Girl Guides of Canada, in Nanaimo, B.C. Fonds has been arranged by Archives staff in the following series 1) Bylaws; 2) Minutes; 3) Correspondence; 4) Scrapbooks; 5) Photographs; 6) Registration forms; and 7) Miscellaneous.
