The Friends of the Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) Nanaimo Harbourfront Branch was formed in 2001 to encourage lifelong learning and literacy through the development and promotion of the resources, programs and services of the VIRL's Nanaimo Harbourfront Branch. They did this by fundraising and outreach events, such as children`s writing contests, author readings, and used book sales. Through donations and fund raising, the group purchased items for the library, including collection materials and equipment to improve accessibility. Founding members of the group include Thora Howell, Sharon Speevak, Brian Clemens, Helen Eng, Ruth Iwascow, and Lynn Wilby. The group dissolved in 2018.
Fonds consists of Constitution and Founding Documents, Financial and Administrative records, Meeting Minutes (2001 - 2018), and miscellaneous items such as promotional materials and information on their children`s writing contests and book sales.
