Coal Tyee Society fonds Coal Tyee Society fonds [textual record, graphic material]. – 1978--1990. The Coal Tyee Historical Society was formed circa 1980 to preserve the memories of as many Vancouver Island coal mining pioneers as possible. The society published Boss Whistle and Three Dollar Dreams, written by Lynne Bowen; produced the play We Too and co-produced, with Rod Langley, the video One Hundred Years Below. They taped interviews with pioneers, and made typewritten transcripts which have been donated to the Provincial Archives of BC and Malaspina College Library. The society felt they had fulfilled their mandate and disbanded in 1990. Final officers of the society were Ruth Tickle (President), Nels Dean (Vice-president), Kate McNeil (Secretary), and Clarence Karr (Treasurer). Fonds consists of records related to the Fonds is arranged in six series: 1) Constitution and bylaws; 2) Minutes; 3) Correspondence; 4) Financial Records; 5) Projects; 6) Miscellaneous. Series 6. Miscellaneous [textual record, graphic material] – 1982-1987 Series consists of book launching invitations for the book “Three Dollar Dreams” and promotional material related to the book “Boss Whistle”; news clippings; book award information; certificates; fundraising research; and documents related to donations to the BC Archives (1983) and the Nanaimo Museum (1982).
