Research Policy On Site Researchers There are no research fees for persons conducting their own research at the Nanaimo Community Archives. Other fees (e.g. photocopying) still apply. To learn about research procedures at the Archives, go to our User's Guide to Basic Procedures. Remote Requests We do not conduct extensive broad-based research for off-site patrons. If you are unable to visit the Archives in person, please send detailed information via email or letter about your topic. From there, we can determine if we hold appropriate sources in our collection and whether or not it is worthwhile to pursue research through us. If it is, and you choose to pursue further research, our fee is $25.00/ hour (with a minimum one hour charge). We are happy to provide information about other possible sources and repositories at no charge. When making your request, please remember that our holdings consist primarily of records created in the Nanaimo region. Requests for vital events records (marriage, birth, death) should be directed to the BC Provincial Archives. Requests for records generated by federal departments (Indian Affairs, censuses, etc.). should be directed to the National Archives of Canada. Genealogists may also be able to hire an independent researcher through the Nanaimo Family History Society. |
